The name for Labrador was thought to have come from the area in Canada called Labrador Peninsula which was a large coastal fishery.

Labrador House was built in 1883 facing Marine Parade as a holiday home with views to the broadwater and South Stradbroke Island. It was one of the first large homes, built by Francis Augusta Lousia Thorn. It sat on 2 acres (0.0081 km²) of land. In 1923 Jim (James) Cavill owned the home and thought to re-develop it.

History of Helensvale

Arthur Robinson and Ernest White developed a sugar plantation in 1870. Helena was the name of Ernest Whites young sister. They decided to name the plantation after her.

It became a local name in 1979 on the 31st of March and is on the Queensland Place names Board. The suburb “Helensvale” was defined in 2003

Helensvale had its first people in the 1980’s with a large shopping centre and both secondary and primary schools. Additionally golf courses and the bowls and parks were developed.

Helensvale was built on the edge of the hinterland and the Gold Coast itself.
