History of Mudgereeba

We are not quite sure where the name derives from but could be 1 of 2 meanings. It may mean “Low lying ground” or a place of infants excrement or sticky soil.

The township of Mudgereeba shows us a reminder of what rural hinterland on the Gold Coast was like. You can see one of the original farmhouses the Schmidt Farmouse in Worongary

Farming was what made this town thrive with cattle and timber in mid 1870s  reference https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudgeeraba,_Queensland

History of Coombabah and Coombabah lake.

Coombabah derives its name from Coombabah Lake and Coombabah Creek. These are named using Aboriginal language “Bundjalung” and the Ngaraangbal dialect. The name means place of the wood grubs. The word goombo means the teredo worm. This was a food source cultivated by the Indigenous people.

Coombabah and Coombabah lake have a history dating back to before 1887 when a provisional school was set up for parents who were employed in the public works area. When the railways were being built the school was then moved to Acrobat creek and opened again in 1889 and closed in 1890

In 1981 the Coombabah State School opened on 27 January

Coombabah is surrounded by Arundel, Hope island, Runaway bay, Biggera Water and Helensvale
